Small Tags Are Getting Smaller

Small fish and aquatic organisms (e.g. eel, shrimp) require acoustic tags to be small. For example sub-yearling Chinook salmon are small, and to effectively monitor them in behavioral studies their tags need to be small.
Available today: Available in 2010:	Acoustic Tags at 0.65 g Acoustic Tags at 0.50 g

Longer Life Acoustic Tags

Why it matters: Some studies require only a day's worth of data, others a season, and some - years. While tag life directly correlates to tag size, we’re working to increase battery life by 2-3 times in our current tag sizes. The new L-series acoustic tags (L for long-life) will be available 2010.

New Micro Data Logger

At 1/10th the power of the existing acoustic tag data loggers, it is an extremely power efficient update.
The new micro data logger is totally enclosed, has self-pinger intervals to confirm its battery is functioning correctly, and includes GPS synchronization. The new micro data logger has the ability to go beyond detecting presence/absence. With 3 micro data loggers, researchers will be able to track aquatic life in 2D. This new fisheries research tool is currently in R&D at HTI.
