How to Conduct an In-Field Calibration
of a Model 241 Echo Sounder

Overview

Calibration is vital for obtaining accurate measures with scientific-grade, hydroacoustic echo sounder systems. Calibration establishes sampling system sensitivities and performance characteristics. This knowledge provides accurate estimation of acoustic size and target strength of individually detected fish.

Follow an HTI scientist as he walks us through a simple in-field calibration set-up and test for an HTI Model 241 Echo Sounder for fisheries research.
